An inexperienced tech left our home a mess, and customer service was more about blame than help. If you choose this company, bring a camera—you’re going to need evidence. Proceed at your own risk! UPDATE: I drafted this two weeks ago and have spent many more phone calls trying to reach someone who can address my concerns. Despite being assured of a callback, it has been total radio silence. The Experience: After booking with Five Star Chimney Cleaning, a technician from "Green Clean LLC" arrived. This subcontractor informed us he intended to blow soot out from the bottom up—a method that would have covered our roof, windows, and neighbors' property in soot. When we told him this was unacceptable, he actually asked us how he should clean the chimney. This was a massive red flag, especially since Five Star’s website claims their staff are "capable technicians with years of experience." Despite this, he continued. Two hours later, my partner found the entire floor covered in soot and ash. The technician claimed he had an "accident." He then proceeded to walk between the soot-covered floor and the outside in his socks, tracking dust throughout our home. Although he called his company for assistance multiple times, no one ever came to help him. As active-duty military, my partner and I had a mandatory obligation that evening. After 4.5 hours of watching him smear soot around, we had to ask him to leave. We requested a 50% discount, which he granted. We spent the rest of our limited time frantically cleaning to ensure the health of our two cats, who were already tracking furnace soot through the house. The Customer Service Nightmare: After calling Five Star several times on Monday—and being hung up on when asking for a supervisor—I finally spoke with "Sandra." Instead of offering a solution for the required re-inspection and professional house cleaning, she was accusatory. She asked, "So you walked into your house knowing full well that there was soot there?" When I asked if she expected me to get a hotel for the weekend, she responded, "Well, there were other options." She demanded photos to "figure out what to do," yet took no responsibility for the service failure. I sent the photos immediately via text. Three weeks later, I have received no confirmation that they were even received, despite multiple follow-ups. The Reality: We paid hundreds of dollars expecting the "good-faith service" and "pristine home" guarantee advertised on their website. Instead, we were gaslit and blamed for not documenting the disaster fast enough while trying to save our flooring and pets. In today’s business climate, you use this service at your own risk. If you hire them, document everything. Take pictures of the technician while they work and immediately after. This company is predatory, unresponsive, and accusatory when confronted. I have included photos showing the state of our home after we had already spent hours cleaning. Take Five Star’s own advice from their website: "The unfortunate reality is that not every chimney sweep values your long-term safety." Based on this experience, I couldn't agree more.

Leonard came out to do a thorough inspection of the chimney, checked for any issues, and put together a helpful report with clear recommendations for repairs. He also made sure the rain cap, which had come off during the accident, was securely reinstalled. The team kept in touch the whole time, letting me know ahead of time when they needed to reschedule and quickly setting a new date that worked for me. They called the day before to confirm the appointment and again on the day of service to let me know they were on their way. I’m really pleased with the service and think the quality of work was well worth the price.

  Zachary, Dale, and Leonard did a fantastic job for us. The new gas fireplace insert they installed looks wonderful, and they worked quickly and made sure everything was tidy before they left. They also took care of some issues with our old chimney, making sure it was safe and in top shape. The team was friendly and made the whole process easy and enjoyable.   i’m so glad i found this chimney sweep company! after some heavy rains in annapolis, i noticed water leaking into our fireplace. i searched online and saw great reviews for these folks. they came out quickly—leonard came by to inspect both of our chimneys and explained what needed to be done. zachary handled the repairs for a really good price, and he was very professional and friendly. when he finished, everything was cleaned up and now our chimney is completely leak-proof! i also wanted to share that a few months later, we had the inside of our fireplace redone and closed off. zachary did such a great job with that too! now we have a small electric fireplace insert that fits perfectly and looks great. it’s been wonderful during colder weather and really improved the look of our living room. i really appreciate small businesses like this in annapolis—they do what they promise and the work is top notch!
