I am disheartened to be having to write this review, because I have been a customer of Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood Forest for over a decade. This past year during annual maintenance I was informed that my wood stove (installed by Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood Forest 17 years ago) had a crack in it and needed to be replaced. This turned into a multi-month ordeal because of bad communication from the office. Then the new stove they installed had problems with the door and the glass front kept breaking. Twice the initial glass, then the replacement glass broke, finally they had to get a new door. In December 2025 I called in to schedule a follow up visit, to review that the new stove and new liner in the chimney were working safely, since it had now had about 2 months of use and I thought it would be a good idea to confirm that everything was in good order. I said in my message that this wasn’t emergent (recognizing that we were getting close to Christmas) but I’d like to get an appointment scheduled in January. I never got a call back to schedule an appointment. Okay, figured it was the holidays, I’d follow up in January. Between then and now, the door handle on the stove has started to fall apart, rendering the door unable to seal properly. I called again, explained the situation and that it has now become more urgent, since I can’t safely use the stove. No one in the office will answer, and no one will return my voice messages. So I am paying for a wood stove I can’t use. 😔 I am sad because I have enjoyed a long, and I thought, good relationship with Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood Forest, so I don’t understand why they are ghosting me. But I need to get this faulty stove fixed, and I guess that means finding a new service provider.
I recently had a fireplace inspection done by Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood and was incredibly impressed with the entire experience. The whole team was professional, polite, and a pleasure to work with from start to finish. George, the technician who performed the inspection, was fantastic. He was very thorough and took his time to inspect everything meticulously. I particularly appreciated his honesty—he didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need and genuinely seemed to have my best interests in mind. I also want to give a special shout-out to Maria in the office. She was always so polite and helpful whenever I called, making the process of scheduling and asking questions seamless. It's clear she is dedicated to providing great customer service. Even their new technician, Mina, was excellent. He was very polite and skilled. It's wonderful to see that the company consistently hires such high-quality people. Overall, I highly recommend Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood for their professionalism, integrity, and outstanding team. It's refreshing to find a company you can truly trust.
Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood Forest is an excellent company that I have used for decades. They service a chimney for an oil burner in a commercial space. More importantly, I put a Hampton HI 2450 wood fireplace insert in my house 2 seasons ago. I went from a Vermont Castings Defiant to this new insert. This company installed this and retrofitted my hearth with a large stone to make the floor flush for this new insert. They did an excellent job with the masonry work and cutting the large hearth stone they installed. We went to pick out the stone at the rock quarry and Chimney Sweeps took it from there. This new insert is amazing after 2 years of use I can testify to using about a third of the wood as the Vermont castings stove with the same heat output. I have the brown enamel finish and it looks amazing. It took a while to get used to not having an ash tray to remove the ash but I've learned that you want some ash in the bottom of the stove to keep in the heat. You remove the ash from the front of the stove in the morning and then level out the remaining ash and pull the ash from the back to the front so it gets completely burnt up for the next morning. The fire box is much smaller than my previous stove and this turned out to be fine. It has a 6 inch instead of an 8 inch exhaust pipe it goes straight up the chimney and there is no bend in the pipe which creates a more efficient draw. The Vermont Castings produced so much Creo salt we had the chimney cleaned 2 times a season. This new Hampton stove produces literally no Creo salt for the last 2 burn seasons. There is no cat. converter. I'll never buy another stove with a cat. converter, they are terrible in my opinion. They are expensive to replace and get clogged and decrease the draw. The Vermont castings would burp smoke whenever the wind blew outside where the new one never burps smoke. This stove is also laser welded so there are no leaks whereas the Vermont castings had clay sealing the corners that needed to be rebuilt every 2 years per the manufacturer. I loved the old stove while I had it but the Creo salt and burping was getting bad and having a new stove really has made things better. I use so much less wood it is really hard to believe. I would give Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood Forest my highest recommendation. I don't write these reviews much at all but I wanted to share this information as I've had 2 years of experience with this new stove and 19 years with the old stove. I do cut split stack age and moisture test my wood prior to burning.
We had a chimney cap partially blow off due to the recent storms. Called Sherwood Forest for scheduling a repair. Same day service, done within 2 hours from when I called! Great service and really nice people to deal with. Thanks so much!
These folks are great. They are accommodating, kind, knowledgeable, have a great selection, and will work with you if issues arise. They fixed up my chimney and installed a our pellet stove that heats half our house on its own, and it only took a couple of days. They were responsive to all my questions, and were transparent in their work. The stove did end up being defective (through no fault of their own as far as I can tell) and stopped working about one week in, but they were able to schedule a technician within two days of my reporting the issue, which is impressive given all this happened around the holiday period. It would be unreasonable to expect faster service during the gift-giving period of the year. In short, i have nothing bad to say about Chimney Sweeps of Sherwood Forest. if you need someone to take good care of your chimney/stove needs, look no further. I cannot recommend them enough.
