I hired this company for multiple chimney services. The chimney liner installation (~$3,500) was completed properly, and the chimney crown/cap work was done well. Unfortunately, the $1,800 masonry portion (grinding and repointing) was not up to a professional standard. As shown in the attached photos, many of the mortar joints are uneven, inconsistently filled, and poorly finished, with visible smearing and patching. There are also damaged and unfinished areas that were left behind. For the cost, this workmanship is disappointing. I contacted the company and they did return to look at it. I was told this was “normal” and that someone would follow up. No one ever called back. While I appreciate that some parts of the job were done correctly, the lack of quality control on the repointing work and the absence of follow-up are concerning—especially given the 12-year warranty advertised. A warranty is hard to rely on when the work is visibly flawed at completion. Overall, this was a mixed experience, and I would be cautious about hiring them for masonry or repointing work.
I would 100% recommend Certified Chimney Service to anyone who needs chimney service. They came recommended to me from the company that services my oil heating system, and it’s very apparent as to why. They showed up when they said they would (it was the owner and two other techs), were very friendly, courteous and professional, the price was extremely reasonable, they completed the work very quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up after themselves. Fred and Alan went above and beyond and I couldn’t recommend their services more. They were incredibly professional, honest, and fair. I am a very satisfied customer and will with no question have them service my chimneys moving forward. As a first time homeowner they explained everything to me about the work the chimneys needed and I felt great comfort in having them perform the work at a very honest price. The customer service and technician service received from this company was great from start to finish. They provided a quote that was the best of three I had received for the work and had the job completed less than 2 weeks later.
They were so knowledgeable and easy to work with, and also explained and showed me pictures of what needed to be done and did the work right then!! I would highly recommend. Before and afters! Yikes!
